Glock's New Model 42 Will Be a .380 ACP?

So, it appears that Glock's new model 42, to be revealed in January will be a .380 ACP.
And it appears to have the following specifications:

  • 5.94 inches in length
  • 4.13 inches in height
  • .94 inches is width
  • 3.1 inch barrel
  • 13.4 ounces in weight
  • 6+1 round capacity

If this is correct, rather than an internet hoax or disinformation from Glock, it is a curious choice.  I know of no one that was asking for Glock to produce a single stack .380 but a lot of people who were asking for a single stack model 19 or slightly smaller pistol.

If the .380 ACP is their choice then the size and capacity of the model 92 are not at all remarkable.  Let's compare it with other pocket pistols:

Taurus 738
Kel-Tec PF9
Kimber Solo
Taurus 709

As you can see, there are 9mm pocket pistols the same size or smaller.  It is about the size of the Kel-Tec PF9 that holds 7 rounds of 9mm as opposed to the six round magazine capacity of the Glock 42.

Just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Agreed. If this is real, it will be the longest .380 out there. This does not make any sense coming from Glock and I can't imagine anyone wanting this.

I'm curious as to why you didn't list the LCP as a pocket .380.

Based upon the normal criteria, it beats the others in the same class for size, weight and concealbility.

It also is extremely accurate despite the tiny sights, but it is unpleasant to shoot. It's not a range gun, it's a last-ditch pocket gun.

But it's superior to those listed.

BHisrh,

I was trying to make two points:

1. The G42 will be larger than most popular .380's. I included the Kahr because it is a high end model and I chose the Taurus because it is a low end model.

2. For the size of the G42 you can get a 9mm which is a much more effective cartridge than the .380 ACP.

There must be a marketing component to this. Perhaps its aimed (pun intended) at female shooters who must have a Glock but want it smaller and with low recoil.

I am like others who would like to see a single stack Glock in 9mm or a .45acp bigger than the G36.
